How the conversions work
The standard oil barrel is defined as 42 U.S. gallons, equivalent to about 158.99 liters or 0.159 cubic meters. Metric ton conversions depend on the density of the specific crude grade — the figure shown here uses a typical light-sweet density of approximately 0.85 t/m³, which is appropriate for WTI-like crudes. Heavier grades (like many Middle Eastern or Canadian crudes) will weigh more per barrel.
